Michigan’s Western Upper Peninsula; Ironwood, Bessemer, Wakefield & Bergland, MI; Hurley, WI
January 4 - 12, 2008
Michigan’s Western Upper Peninsula invites you to be a part of the biggest snowmobile extravaganza the upper Midwest has ever seen! January 4th through the 12th will be jam packed with fast races, exciting events, snowmobile shows and activities for ages in an amazing event called Sledfest ‘08.
USSA sanctioned Oval racing and Vintage Pro racing kick off January 4th through the 6th at the Gogebic County Fair Grounds in Ironwood, Michigan. Friday is test and tune day. Racers will be around for autographs and pictures. Check out the Expo building for food, snowmobile gear and more. Saturday, racers take to the track at 10 A.M.; the day will feature a memorial race for the late Jim Adeama. In addition to racing, the weekend features a Vintage Snowmobile show, snowmobile swap meet, vendors and exhibits.
All are invited to a reception at the Hurley Inn for cocktails, buffet dinner, awards presentation, and music. Sunday concludes oval and vintage racing from 10 A.M. until dark.
And the fun continues… During the week, take a trip out to Wakefield’s Sunday Lake for radar runs sponsored by Wakefield’s Chamber of Commerce, to Lake Gogebic and participate in the “Fun Run”, to Hurley for the Silver Street Poker Run or register for one of the many guided tours to find the best places to sled.
There are no mid-week lows in this Sledfest. Wednesday is the kick off for the final event ESPN X-Game sanctioned Sledjam. Come party it up at the Premier Party with freestyle snowmobile riders at the Cloverland Cinema. There will be a live broadcast with 99.7 The Storm starting at 5:00 P.M. Have something to eat before meeting X-Game riders. Then watch some of the latest freestyle movies: Slednecks 10, Braaap Luck Number 7, 2 Stroke Cold Smoke Crushing It, Sinister 10, and Exconfreeride-A life on the outside.
Thursday, see the freestylers practicing in a Jam session at the Gogebic County Fair Grounds. Pick up some food, cool stuff, and snowmobile gear from the Expo building. Then, head over to the Powdermill Resort for live music. Visit the 99.7 The Storm VIP bonfire party while watching the riders practice up for the first eliminating round to qualify for the ESPN Winter X Games.
Hit up Hurley’s Silver Street and head in to Spider’s for live music featuring The Teds. Wrapping up the week of fun events, is the exciting conclusion for the last chance qualifiers for this year’s ESPN Winter X Games. Pick up your last minute items in the Expo building and fill up on the great Upper Peninsula food before Sledfest ’08 is over.
Don’t miss all of the fun and excitement! Whether you are going to be a visitor to the area joining in, want to be a vendor and sell your great snowmobile stuff, or want to volunteer, we want to share this first time experience with you.
